As if you needed an excuse to pick up a dozen doughnuts, National Doughnut Day is here! In addition to horses, bourbon, and basketball, Lexington is home to plenty of must-try doughnuts, and we think this sweet holiday is the perfect time to taste test them. Check out these four a-glaze-ing spots for a celebratory treat.

Magee’s Bakery

This local favorite has been family owned and operated since 1956. In addition to fresh-made donuts (glaze, chocolate glaze, and cake options), Magee’s has a variety of danishes, croissants, bagels, and heartier breakfast options, like the BLT sandwich or biscuits and gravy. Pro-tip: Place an order online the night before so you’ll be sure to get your favorite flavor.

North Lime Coffee & Donuts

North Lime donuts are handcrafted fresh from scratch every morning. One of their delicious classics, like cinnamon sugar or chocolate iced, paired with a cup of their locally-roasted coffee, makes for a perfect morning pick-me-up. Be sure to follow them on Instagram to stay up-to-date on the latest weekly specials.

Frank’s Donuts

Frank’s Donuts on East Third Street has all your favorites, like glaze, chocolate glaze, and chocolate with sprinkles, as well as other sweet offerings, like chocolate muffins, cream- and custard-filled donuts, and bear claws. The best part? You don’t even have to get out of your car because they have a drive-thru.

Spalding’s Bakery

Spalding’s has been hand-forming delicious doughnuts since 1929. If it’s your first visit, be sure to try “the original” — a glazed, yeast doughnut. Other varieties include cake doughnuts, filled doughnuts, and long donuts. They also sell cinnamon rolls, cream horns, sticky buns (weekends only!), and more. They only accept cash, but there’s an ATM next door. Just make sure to get there early, because the line can be lengthy.
