Who doesn’t love savoring a warm cup of hot cocoa during the holiday season, or wintertime in general? If you don’t feel like making it at home, here are five must-visit spots where you can order traditional and unique takes on hot chocolate in Lexington.
True to its name, Chocolate Holler sells hot chocolate as well as sipping chocolates; melted down chocolate bars steamed up with a touch of whole milk. The sipping chocolates range from 70% dark chocolates, to sweeter milk chocolates, and even some spicy options. When it comes to hot cocoa (which can also be served cold), there are several flavors, including chocolate mint, orange cocoa, and cookie butter.
During cold-weather months, this local brewery sells a spiked hot chocolate (Swiss Miss hot chocolate with crème de cacao, peppermint schnapps, and crème de menthe) and hot toddy (apple cider with Buffalo Trace, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and nutmeg). Just get there early, because the warm cocktails usually sell out.
Third Street Stuff takes their hot cocoa seriously. The downtown coffee shop has several varieties, including cinnamon white hot, raspberry white hot, and white hot chocolate. You can also pick up a locally baked pastry to enjoy alongside your cocoa.
This might be an ice cream shop, but they’ve also been known to sell cups of hot cocoa, jars of hot cocoa mix, and bags of flavored marshmallows (think peppermint, bourbon, and vanilla) during the holiday season. They also have a holiday collection of ice creams with flavors like white chocolate peppermint, bourbon ball, and gingerbread.
There’s hot chocolate on the menu, but Lussi Brown Coffee Bar also serves monthly coffee cocktails. In November and December you can order more festive drinks, like white russians, eggnog, and more. Be sure to check out their website for the current offerings.
