Whether you’re a devoted gamer or a casual fan, there’s something that every game enthusiast can look forward to in the new year. Here are some of the biggest game releases to keep on your radar in 2022.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2

Not much is yet known about the sequel to 2017’s smash hit Nintendo Switch (and Wii U) Legend of Zelda installment Breath of the Wild, including its title, which remains unannounced. However, fans can expect to see the game’s release at some point in 2022, with the first major trailer already having been released several months back highlighting some of the new in-game features. And while we wait for more news about the Breath of the Wild sequel as the year unfolds, we can always go back and enjoy the original.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus

The latest installment in the beloved Pokémon game series takes place in the same general realm as the classic Diamond and Pearl games, and like its predecessors, it’s being produced by the accomplished Japanese game development studio, Game Freak, and features a role-playing action format. As of now it is scheduled to be released for Nintendo Switch in late January.

Gran Turismo 7

The first six games in the Gran Turismo series, starting with the first for the original PlayStation in 1997, have cemented the franchise as one of the most celebrated driving simulators out there and a staple for PlayStation fans. The seventh, set to be released in March, will be playable on both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, making it the first cross-console game in the series’ history.

Horizon Forbidden West

A sequel to Guerilla Games’ 2017 hit Horizon Zero Dawn, which remains among the PlayStation’s top-selling games, Horizon Forbidden West is set to release in February for both PlayStations 4 and 5. Aloy, the iconic protagonist of the original game, returns for players to control and explore the open-world environment of a post-apocalyptic United States. In the meantime, fans can enjoy the first installment as well as the comic books and music inspired by the series.

Bayonetta 3

Although the third Bayonetta game was first announced several years ago– 2017, to be exact– it’s finally making its debut on the Nintendo Switch this year. The release date remains TBA, but fans can expect the same iconic action-adventure featuring everybody’s favorite gun-wielding witch from fictional Europe. The first two games can be played on their original platforms as well as Nintendo Switch, and the first has also been ported to PC as of 2017, available on Steam.

Choo-Choo Charles

Lighthearted name aside, Choo Choo Charles is an upcoming Steam game about large, murderous spiders…and also trains? Although the indie horror game’s 20-year-old developer was surprised by the skyrocketing interest in its release, it’s easy to see why so many curiosities were piqued: it’s an open-world survival game with lots to explore, including a giant, monstrous train-spider out for blood. You might not remember this Thomas the Tank Engine episode, to say the least.
